Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed. My day for that was April 4, 2007. The day started pretty normally. I got my children out of bed and got them off to school. And then I was off to visit my 98 year old Grandpa who was is the hospital in St. Helena, California. I set off that day like any other having no idea what was in store for me.
I had been sick for a while with an incarcerated hernia. And I was working hard to lose weight to make the inevitable surgery easier. I had lost 100 pounds at that point, doing surprisingly well. After having a nice morning visiting Grandpa, my Mom and I decided to eat our lunch while he ate his. We retired to the cafeteria to eat lunch. Keeping to my good habits I had a green salad and water for lunch. We returned to visit Grandpa again after lunch and about an hour after eating I began to worry that maybe I had eaten something that didn't agree with me.
My mom and I decided that maybe it was time to leave and head home because I felt so ill.
